You might already know how to play poker but where do you go from there? There are many strategies and odds that you can memorize to sharpen you’re skills at Texas hold em. This tip will focus on playing the other players rather then playing your cards.

Hold em is a high card game. Players holding two high cards will have the best chances of winning the pot but the chances can change every time the dealer lays another card down. You can literally start with pocket aces and still lose more then you win with them, even to a 7-2. So even if you only play strong hands you can still lose. Sometimes the key is to play weak hands as if they are pocket aces. Acting strong and aggressive before the flop can make people with better hole cards fold before they get a stronger hand than yours on the flop or it away on the river. Doing this won’t always work but it does improve your chances of knocking them out before they become threats to you thus increasing your chances of winning.

Aggressive play before the flop can add power and credibility to any strong hand you might want to use on the next round if a garbage flop comes and you want to try and bluff to steal the pot.

A common mistake when bluffing a strong hand is when people want the other players to fold they will act strong hoping it will intimidate them into folding. But in reality it does not work this way. Think about it, if you have a strong hand, why would you want the other players to fold when your hand will most likely win a large pot?

Experienced players can see straight through this and pounce on you. So when you raise as if you have a fantastic hand do the exact opposite of what intimidation is. Look weak, look the floor, drop your shoulders, do not try to stair down other players. You may have a pair of threes but they will think you have a big hand and that you’re baiting them in to a trap and they will fold unless they by some off chance have a huge hand they must act on. This is one way of playing the other players.
You can read and research poker odds and strategy all you want but nothing will ever compare to actual experience, trial and error. For this I recommend playing online poker, You’ll play through hundreds even thousands of hands as you practice. Where as playing in person the hands can go much slower and can be embarrassing if you’re just starting. I recommend at www.funpokertimes.info You can play for free with play money or you can use real money in which they will double your deposit up to five hundred dollars.
