Online Poker Etiquette
When playing online Poker, remember that there are certain rules that you have to observe and be aware of. Yes, even online Poker has certain protocols that you should follow. Here is a list of several of them:
First and foremost, be sure that you are familiar with the rules of the Poker game and the current format. You will only be shortchanging yourself if you go on playing a particular Poker game without understanding the set rules.
You should make sure that you remain professional throughout the game particularly when communicating through instant messaging. Never use foul language and try to observe proper grammar. Since every one else is concentrating on their strategies, try to be concise and be direct and to the point when sending your message.
During game play, you should never harass other Poker players or use trash talk and other derogatory comments that would upset the players. If ever you yourself find something disagreeable with the way another player is behaving or with the other player’s style of play, avoid making nasty comments but instead call their attention politely and in a professional manner.
Never discuss your hand with other Poker players in the game. This will give them an unfair advantage over the other players. If you have already folded, try to learn by sitting quietly and observing the other players during the remainder of the game.
If you wish to be excused for one reason or another, there are optional breaks which can be requested by each player. Use the breaks given to get fresh air when you start feeling too uptight and rather anxious. These options are here to help you make the most out of the Poker game without pushing yourself too much.
It is unwise to discuss your hand even when the game is over. Remember that this will not help you in any way and will only be a waste of your time. In the same way, never point out strategic miscalculations made by other players. This is unprofessional and simply rude. Be gracious in victory by thanking the other Poker players for a game well played.
Try to avoid unnecessary chatter since this will only waste time. It can be very distracting for some players and it will prolong the game unnecessarily. You are primarily not to use small talk, but to play the game of Poker.
Never play too many tables simultaneously. This will only overload you and hamper your concentration. Remember that it is always best to focus on one game than try to play four and lose in all of them because of your lack in focus on a particular game.
Stalling is never a good technique to win the game. Never resort to asking an unwarranted amount of questions as a diversion for the other players. Respect your opponents game play by not disrupting them playing in a reasonable pace and attitude.
Needless to say, you should never cheat in any form or way. If you need to fold, do not disrupt the game play of the remaining players. Any type of obstruction or uncalled for behaviour is and will be considered cheating.
