Poker position is power, the position makes money! Poker is all about people and position. Every experienced poker player agrees poker position in no limit Holdem is very important.

If you play at a full ring table there are early, middle and late positions.

The early position is the first four seats to the left of the dealer. Early positions are the worst position to be in. You need to have a real strong hand to act from this position because there are lots of people behind you to act, which means you could get raised or re-raised. If you are under the Gun, you are direct to the left of the big blind, which it means that you are the first player to act as soon as the cards have been dealt. The positive with early positions is that you can check raise. To successfully check-raise, you must know the person acting after you will bet, the bet you intend to raise.

The middle position is the next three positions. From this position you could loosen up your game and play more hands. It is not a great position but it is better than sitting in the early positions. The benefits from middle position are that you can bet to improve your position. One of the tactics you should use is if nobody before you is showing strength is that you can bet hoping the players behind you fold. Occasionally when holding a decent hand it is worthwhile to bet with the aim of stealing the button.

The late positions are the last three seats at the table. These seats are the best cause you can often rule the table. You are free to play more hands because you know your positional advantage is set for every betting round the length of the hand. Being last to act is the best place if you want to bluff. If the cards on the board are low and few players involved, you can often win the pot if you make a bet, no matter what cards you are holding. The bet will sometimes scare the rest of the players out of the pot. If you are last to act you often have the possibility to see the flop cheaply and if you hit your decent start hand you have a great position for the rest of the round. If the round is checked to you, you can place a bet, sometimes you win the hand right away, otherwise the round after turn will be checked to you and you can see the river for free.

Poker position is an important consideration in how you play your hand, and you’ll possess at least one advantage over your opponents by always keep this consideration in mind.
I have played poker for a couple of years, mostly for coffee money. After I started play with a poker calculator I went from a mediocre poker player to a constant winning poker player. The poker calculator helped me to fold, call or raise in the right situations. I got instant advice which hands i should play based on my table position. I highly recommend this kind of software.
