Okay so you want a review on Texas poker rules. I totally commend you in refreshing yourself with the basics of the game. Because unless you absolutely have the basic foundation of the hierarchy of what hands are lower and what hands are higher, you will inevitably get into a situation thinking which is higher? A straight or a flush? If you don’t know that, then you may lose a bundle of money that you shouldn’t have in the first place. This article will deal with the basic Texas poker rules and hopefully will reinforce what you know already or have you learn it even better.

Of course, knowing the order of high hands and low hands won’t automatically make you a wise man of the table but it will certainly let you know of the odds when you have to gamble. Putting the highest probability odds in your favor is really the name of the game and when you know this you will have to play a lot of hands to understand this. You can read as much as you can, but until you experience the highs and lows of a poker session you will never understand the meaning of having a made hand.

Poker Hands. You have basically 10 levels of poker hands that you have to absolutely understand and memorize. It sounds like a lot to learn but really once you see where the majority of the hands are learning the hierarchy of these hands within the Texas poker rules are not hard to learn.

I will list the following poker hands in the order of rank so that you can understand the hierarchy of Texas poker rules.

Low Poker Hand…This is the lowest hand you can get. This hand consists of nothing meaning you have no pairs, no trips, no nothing to be proud of. The only thing that you can say about this hand is that the highest card is called a kicker. The odds of this kind of hand winning in any format is almost next to nothing because of its lack of power.

Pair…This is having two same cards. That is 2 cards of deuces, three’s, fours, you get the idea on this.

Two pair…This set of cards is one up from 1 pair as previously noted. These are 2 sets of cards that are the same.

Three of Kind…Now we’re getting into betting territory. Cards of this nature are called trips. Sometimes they do trip you up if someone has a straight.

Straight…These are 5 cards in no particular suit that are consecutive, such as 9, 10, J, Q, K. Of course if there is more than one straight with a player, the straight with a higher kicker wins.

Flush…These are 5 cards of the same suit and they do not need to be in any particular order and this beats all other hands to this point. A flush could consist of all hearts, spades, diamonds or clubs.

Full House…This is a hand made of three cards of one rank and two cards of another. Trips and a pair as I like to call them.

Four of a kind…This is a rarity but when it comes it’s almost a guaranteed winner but not quite. This hand consists of four cards of the rank such as 4 10’s, 4 Jacks, 4 deuces.

Straight Flush…This hand is a straight as previously defined but these cards are all the same suit. Five consecutive cards of the same suit and when there’s more than one player with a straight flush, the higher kicker wins.

Royal Flush…Now you’re in heaven. This is the highest possible hand as Texas poker rules are defined. This is a straight hand from 10 to Ace in the same suit.

So knowing the basic foundation of Texas poker rules by hands is paramount in understanding the odds of the pot and what you’re chances are in getting a card that can help you win.
